PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARIES AND A PUBLIC VOICE

Outline for Research Reports On
A PUBLIC VOICE: WHO IS LISTENING?
May 2, 2007
(to be submitted by local coordinators at the four sites: We suggest 5-10 pages and would appreciate receiving these prior to our meeting June 7-8, 2007 in Washington, DC)

I. Participants – Who attended? How were they enlisted? Did they have previous experience with NIF?

II. Overview of event – Who moderated? What was the physical set-up? Were refreshments served? Were there any security issues?

III. Technology – How did you receive the program? Did you encounter any obstacles?

IV. Describe in some detail the conversation prompted by the questions provided to you in Phil Stewart’s memo. Please address each question separately.

V. Please provide your observation on what your participants heard and saw about the actual or potential relationship between the public understanding (as seen on the roll-in video segments) and the professional (as represented by the panelists at the press club).

a. At what point did you observe understanding; depreciation, surprise, condescension or insight on the part of the panel in response to the citizen tapes?
b. What aspects of the Press Club dialogues suggest (1) inherent difficulties and (2) potential openings towards a richer relationship between public (“organic’) and institutional (professional) political life.

VI. Other observations
